An image of Kevin Gent.
Kevin Gent is an Ambulance Technician working for the East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust, based at the King's Mill Ambulance Station, Nottinghamshire.

In 2005 he was diagnosed with Thymic cancer which resulted in the loss of his right lung so, naturally, his energy levels and stamina are somewhat lessened; the after-effects of long spells in chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

This hasn't stopped him from returning to full time operational work though - he was very keen to start serving the public once again!

Kevin wanted to give a little back to the people who helped him through this difficult and often bleak period, and this in turn led to discussions about fundraising for two institutions;
Cancer Research UK and Nottingham City Hospital Oncology Department.

You can help us by donating - every penny counts!

Kevin was a keen long distance runner who has taken part in the London and Nottingham marathons and the Great Northern Run. He is also an avid mountaineer, having conquered (to name a few!)
  • Mount McKinley (Denali) in Alaska @ 20.320ft
  • Mont Blanc @ 15,780ft
  • Matterhorn @ 14,691ft
  • Eiger @ 13,641ft
Since the illness removed a vital organ, climbing and running were out of the question, but there is yet another love in Kevin's life (and we're not forgetting his wife, of course!) and that is motorcycling.

This generated a few thoughts and eventually led to the idea of a major charity motorcycle ride that we hope will capture the imagination.

On 26th July 2008 Kevin, along with over 30 friends and colleagues, aims to ride 'continuously' from Land's End to John O'Groats in 1 day.

In the process, this will set a new record as the largest single group of riders to complete this particular journey under the rules of the Iron Butt Association.

Our team of convict look-a-likes includes ambulance crews, electricians, painters and the world's best people - Police Officers! (We have to say that, they'll be watching...)

Some of our team are shown below and we hope to have the full list shortly. We must warn you before you scroll down the page - these pictures are quite gruesome...
